What we do, and our office procedures...
We specialize in Activator Methods low force chiropractic, a unique approach to chiropractic that allows us to accuraly determine which areas of the body need to be adjusted and which do not. Why is this important? Well, joints in the body that do not need to be adjusted are simply left alone, there is no need to work over healthy, non-injured joints. With Activator adjusting, we are able to do precisely that, find the injured, aching joints, work on them, all the while determine which joints are healthy, functional joints and leave those alone. This way, you are able to walk out the door feeling great, instead of coming in with low back pain but leaving with neck pain. We are accurately able to zone in on the problematic areas and take care of the problem.
The key to using low force chiropractic, is simply the speed of the adjustment. Because the insrument can deliver the adjustment so quickly, the muscles of the body are not able to respond quick enough to resist the adjustment. This way, we do not have to worry about using such a high force in an effort to adjust not only through the joint, but having to thrust through contracted muscle tissue.
The third advantage we are able to utilize that manual adjusting can not, is the ability to work with people who are in the acute injury phase of an injury. Because Activator does not require any uncomfortbale positioning, we are able to work with people who are in more acute pain. There is no twisting, popping, thumping, or cracking, so if someone is experiencing immense pain, there is no threat to complicate the problem, only beneficial chiropractic geared toward finding the problem and fixing it.
Our Office Policies
Our new patient policies are very quick and easy. A few of these points can be elaborated in the video on the front page, but here I will point out a few of the first day procedures that are important in finding your specific problem and correcting it.
First, the new patient experience takes about 40 minutes including the adjustment. We start with some brief paperwork specifically designed to gather as much information about your problem, specifically How did your pain/problem start? How long have you experienced the problem? When does it feel better? When worse? Questions such as these provide me with valuable information about you, your health, and your specific condition.
Second, we move to a brief exam where you are but through a range of motion exercise, to see how you are moving and if any certain positioning leads to increased or decreased pain. I then analyze the muscles and soft tissue in the regions to get an idea how your body is responding to the injury. It is important to note that our strict policy to not gown patients, patients are kept in their clothing, as we are able to gather as much information this way as we need.
Here is where together, we will decide if you, and your specific condition is a good candidate for chiropractic care. If we decided your condition will respond to chiropractic, we can move forward with care immediatly. It is important to note that we do not routinely shoot x-rays, and do not have an x-ray machine at the clinic. We treat every patient on a case-by-case basis and determine the neccessity for x-rays by clinical indication. We find that often x-rays are simply taken 'just because' and often there is no clinical indication for the x-rays. If it is determined that they are needed as in a severe acute accident, to rule out a fracture, or in an effort to rule out a malignancy, or cancer. If we decide that your condition will not respond favorably to chiropractic care, we will provide you with the proper referal, and make sure we get you pointed in the right direction so that you can obtain the medical care you need. Up to this point, if you decide not to proceed with care, there will no charge for the day and you will not be obligated proceed with any future care. If you do, however, decide to go with chiropractic, together we will set up a plan to work within your schedule to proceed with care in the most efficient and quickest way to get you out of pain and back to life!

Activator Treatments
Dr. Grimes treats patients using a specific analysis and correction called Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique (AMCT). This analysis is supported by over 40 years of clinical study and research support. There are currently over 350 published, peer reviewed research papers on this unique, specialty technique.
Activator Methods is demanding of its doctorsand implements a testing protocol and ongoing education for those doctors choosing to use this method of care for their patients. To be rated, or qualified, as an Activator practitioner, a doctor must pass both written and practical examinations, in addition to state and national licensing examinations. The doctor will be rated either, 'Basic' or 'Advanced', depending on his or her knowledge and skill level. Once a rating is achieved, doctors are placed on a world wide directory (www.activator.com) so that the profession and patients know who is qualified to use the Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique. If a chiropractor is not listed in the directory, he or she is not qualified, and may not market themselves as qualified in the analysis or the technique.
Dr. Grimes has held an advanced proficiency rating for several years and continues with yearly training.
The activator is approved by the FDA. Most insurance companies reimburse for Activator treatments. To use the Activator, a doctor must take additional post graduate classes and pass a competency test. Dr. Dan is one of only 36 chiropractic doctors in Minnesota that has this credential.
